cute Neo

Hou Minghao also known as Neo Hou is a Chinese actor and former idol who started out in a boy group called Fresh Teenager Geek before fully switching into acting, where he really found his popularity. He gradually built a strong fanbase through Chinese dramas, especially in youth, fantasy, and modern romance genres, where his natural screen presence stands out more than flashy gimmicks.

He became more widely recognized after appearing in popular dramas like The Untamed, and later gained even more attention with I Am Nobody and When We Were Young. In these roles, he often plays characters who are clever, a little playful, and emotionally warm, which makes him very easy for audiences to like and remember.

Many people find him “cute” and “sweet,” it’s really a combination of everything about him working together. He has a naturally soft, youthful look big expressive eyes, a bright smile, and an overall gentle vibe that gives off “boy-next-door energy.” On top of that, in interviews and behind-the-scenes clips, he often laughs easily, gets a bit shy, or reacts in a playful way that feels very genuine rather than polished or distant. That kind of natural awkward-sweet charm tends to win people over fast.

Then there’s his acting style: he often ends up in roles where he’s either the loyal friend, the slightly mischievous genius, or the warm-hearted lead who secretly cares a lot. So even when he’s not “trying” to be cute, the characters he plays kind of amplify that image. And of course, fans take those moments, clip them, remix them, and basically turn them into a whole “he’s too cute to handle” universe online.

he’s known not just for acting, but for that soft, cheerful, slightly teasing energy that makes people describe him as cute and sweet almost instantly.

In Dashing Youth, Hou Minghao plays the character Baili Dongjun, and this role is one of those “looks carefree but is actually way more complex than he seems” types that fans really enjoy.

Baili Dongjun starts off as a young noble heir who doesn’t exactly behave like one. Instead of focusing on politics or strict training, he’s more interested in freedom, friendships, and especially brewing wine. He has this very lively, slightly rebellious energy like someone who is talented enough to take things seriously, but deliberately chooses not to all the time. That contrast is a big part of his charm: he looks relaxed and playful, but underneath, he’s actually extremely gifted in martial arts and has strong potential that others gradually begin to recognize.

As the story develops, Baili Dongjun’s character slowly shifts from being a carefree “I just want to live my life” kind of person into someone who is forced to grow up and take responsibility. He doesn’t lose his soft or playful personality, but life pushes him into situations where he has to think more deeply about loyalty, friendship, and duty. That balance between warmth and hidden strength is what makes the character interesting

he isn’t just a typical heroic lead, but someone who grows through experience rather than sudden transformation.

Hou Minghao brings a lot of charm to the role by leaning into both sides of Baili Dongjun. In the lighter moments, he makes the character feel fun, youthful, and a bit mischievous—especially in scenes involving friends or wine-making. But in more serious moments, he shifts into a calmer, more intense presence that shows the character’s depth without making it feel exaggerated. That mix of playful energy and quiet strength is what makes Baili Dongjun stand out in the series and keeps viewers emotionally invested in his journey.
