Chapter 6 Festival of Moon Blossoms
The Night of Silver Blossoms
"Even the moon casts shadows."
The Floating Dome of Hive-Lumina had never looked more beautiful.Suspended high above the clouds of eastern Azura, the vast city shimmered beneath the eternal moonlight like a dream woven from crystal and silver. Beneath the transparent dome overhead, stars sparkled endlessly while streams of glowing spirit-water flowed through gardens filled with moonflowers and sacred lotus trees.Tonight was no ordinary night. Tonight marked the Festival of Moon Blossoms, the most sacred celebration of the Tenkūjin. Held only once every fifty years, the festival honored the Seven Moon Gods and welcomed a new generation into adulthood. For the Sky People, whose lives revolved around harmony, tradition, and collective unity, the celebration represented the very heart of their civilization. Thousands had gathered. Female Warriors. Female Healers. Female Architects. Priestesses. Female Workers. Rare sons. They stood together beneath the moon. For many, this night would become one of their happiest memories. For three siblings Tsukikage. Yuki Tsukishiro. Suiren. it would become the final night of their childhood.
The central terraces of the city had transformed into a sea of silver and blue. Countless lanterns floated weightlessly through the air, drifting like tiny stars. Moonflower petals rained from crystal branches. Bridges of transparent jade connected enormous gardens suspended between towers. Silken ribbons danced in the breeze. Soft bells made from spirit crystal chimed gently, producing melodies so beautiful that many visitors from other domes claimed the sounds could calm troubled hearts. Far above everything stood the Queen's Palace. The palace itself resembled a gigantic moonflower blooming in the sky. Layers of white crystal petals unfolded around its structure, and streams of glowing water poured downward into the city below like waterfalls of moonlight. At its highest balcony stood the ruler of Hive-Lumina. Queen Tsukihana
Queen Tsukihana was ancient. Older than many cities. Older than some kingdoms below. Yet she appeared as beautiful and youthful as the day she had emerged from her own egg centuries ago. Her long silver-black hair cascaded to her knees. Her skin possessed the pale radiance shared by all Tenkūjin, though hers glowed faintly with psychic power. Upon her head rested an elaborate crown of moon crystals and silver lotus petals. Her robes were unlike anything worn by ordinary citizens. Layer upon layer of translucent white silk floated around her body, embroidered with celestial dragons and the symbols of the Seven Moon Gods. Behind her stood members of her court: Female Royal Guards in ceremonial armor their hair in a bun. Hair wraps around itself into a knot. A long silver stick passes through the base to hold it all together. Priestesses carrying moon staffs. Noble female attendants. Several elegant male consorts who were originally from other Hives dressed in flowing white garments. Though her expression remained calm and motherly, everyone knew what lay behind those silver eyes. Power. Enough psychic strength to command an entire hive. Enough magical might to move mountains. Enough wisdom to guide thousands of children. When she looked upon the city below, her expression softened. Pride filled her heart. Her children had grown beautifully.
Near the center of the plaza stood the Hall of Echoes, where the colony's precious males prepared for the evening choir. Rare among their people, the sons of Hive-Lumina were treated like treasures. Their garments had been prepared months in advance. Among them stood two brothers who looked almost identical. Tsukikage Tsukikage's long black hair flowed down his back like silk. His silver-gray eyes held warmth and curiosity. His face was gentle and expressive, quick to smile and easy to read. Tonight he wore ceremonial robes of white sky-silk embroidered with pale blue moonflowers. Layers of translucent fabric drifted around him like clouds. Tiny silver ribbons trailed from his sleeves whenever he moved. He looked beautiful. Yet despite the excitement surrounding him, Tsukikage kept glancing toward the crowds. Searching. Beside him stood his older brother. Yuki seemed carved from moonlight itself. His features were almost impossibly perfect. Long black hair reached his waist. His pale skin looked like fresh snow. Dark eyes reflected calm and quiet wisdom far beyond his age. Unlike Tsukikage, Yuki rarely smiled openly. His emotions were gentle and subtle. He wore pure white robes combining the elegance of ancient Japanese and Chinese styles. Silver embroidery traced constellations across his sleeves. Everything about him seemed tranquil. Timeless. Even among the other males, Yuki stood out. Several matrons whispered among themselves.
"Such resonance."
"He may become a Noble Consort someday."
"His voice alone could preserve memory."
Yuki simply smiled politely, seemingly unaware of the attention. Searching for Suiren
Tsukikage looked around nervously.
"Have you seen Suiren?" he asked.
Yuki chuckled softly.
"No."
Tsukikage immediately became worried.
"That means something terrible has happened."
Yuki laughed quietly.
"Almost certainly."
Elsewhere in Hive-Lumina Suiren had spent three entire days preparing for this festival. Three days. To Suiren, this ceremony was the most important event of her young life. She wanted to look dignified. Elegant. Strong. Like the Royal Guards she admired. Her long black hair had been tied into a neat ponytail using silver ribbons. She wore miniature ceremonial armor crafted specifically for younger warrior candidates. White battle robes. Silver shoulder guards. Sky-blue sash. Small crystal bracers. She had even practiced her salute over one hundred times. Tonight, she would impress everyone. At least That had been the plan.
Carrying a tray of moon cakes meant for several priestesses, Suiren marched proudly across the terrace.
"Steady..."
"Steady..."
"I'm a future Royal Guard..."
"I can do this."
Unfortunately Her sandal caught on her own sash. Suiren stumbled. The tray flew upward. Moon cakes exploded into the air. Tea spilled everywhere. A table flipped. A decorative sculpture made from moon crystal toppled over.
CRASH!
Silence. Absolute silence. Three horrified priestesses stared at the destruction. Suiren slowly rose from the floor. Flower petals covered her hair. Tea dripped from her sleeves. One moon cake sat on top of her head.
She blinked.
"...Oops?"
The younger girls burst into laughter. Several warriors covered their mouths. Even stern Female Royal Guards struggled not to smile. One elderly architect looked close to fainting.
From across the terrace, Tsukikage nearly died from embarrassment.
"SUIREN!"
The little girl waved happily.
"I'm alright!"
"You are not alright!" Tsukikage cried.
Yuki stood beside him laughing quietly.
"At least she survived."
Tsukikage buried his face in his sleeves.
"Brother, I wish I could disappear."
"You say that every time she breaks something."
"Because she always breaks something!"
High above, Queen Tsukihana observed the scene. For a moment The ancient Queen smiled. Not as a ruler nor as a psychic sovereign. But simply as a mother. She remembered when Suiren had hatched from her egg. Small. Curious. Endlessly energetic. Some children brought order. Suiren brought chaos. And somehow Hive-Lumina felt brighter because of it.
Eventually, Suiren ran toward her brothers. Despite being younger than both, she threw herself directly into Tsukikage. He nearly fell over.
"Brother!"
"You ruined your clothes again!"
"But look!"
She spun proudly.
"Don't I look like a Royal Guard?"
Tsukikage stopped.
His expression softened. Because despite the tea stains Despite the flower petals Despite the disaster— Suiren looked happy. And beautiful.
Yuki smiled warmly.
"Our little flower has grown."
Suiren puffed out her cheeks.
"I'm not little!"
"You are."
"I'm not!"
"You absolutely are."
She glared.
Then suddenly hugged both brothers.
"I'll become strong."
"I'll protect both of you someday."
Tsukikage laughed softly.
"Then I'll depend on you."
Yuki placed a hand upon her head.
"And I shall cheer for you."
Suiren beamed.
For a brief moment The three siblings stood together beneath the moon. Laughing. Teasing. Happy. None of them knew. None of them could possibly know. That this would be the last festival they would ever spend together. As evening approached, the silver bells throughout Hive-Lumina began to ring. The sacred choir was about to begin. And soon The coming-of-age ceremony would follow. Far above the dome Beyond the glass sky The moon watched silently. And somewhere in the darkness A shadow waited.
Night had fully descended upon Hive-Lumina. Beneath the endless moonlight enclosed within the great crystal dome, the Festival of Moon Blossoms entered its most sacred hour. The laughter of children faded. The music softened. Even the floating lanterns seemed to drift more slowly, as if the entire city itself was taking a breath. The time for celebration had passed. Now came remembrance. The Songs of Memory Thousands gathered around the Grand Terrace. Female warriors stood in perfect formation. Priestesses raised staffs crowned with glowing moonstones. Female Architects and healers knelt respectfully. The countless daughters of the Queen bowed their heads in silence. At the center of the plaza stood the rare males of the hive, the sons of Hive-Lumina. Their white robes fluttered gently in the breeze. Among them stood Tsukikage and Yuki. Though they appeared almost identical to outsiders, those who knew them could easily tell the difference. Tsukikage smiled naturally. His eyes sparkled with warmth and curiosity. Yuki, meanwhile, possessed a calm that seemed older than his years. His expression was serene. Almost melancholy. The brothers stood side by side. Behind them, little Suiren sat proudly among the younger warrior candidates, having finally cleaned the tea stains from her armor. She waved enthusiastically. Tsukikage almost laughed. Yuki simply smiled.
The Sacred Choir began to sing Then the first note sounded. A single voice. Soft. Pure. Ancient. Another joined. Then another. Soon, dozens of male voices blended together. Their song carried no words. It was memory itself. The voices of generations. The birth of queens. The construction of cities. The prayers offered to the Seven Moon Gods. The grief of losses long forgotten. The hopes of unborn children. Throughout the plaza, countless Tenkūjin closed their eyes. Many wept. Not from sadness. But from beauty. The male choirs preserved the history of their people. Their songs were living archives. And among all the voices One stood above the rest. Yuki's. His voice seemed almost unreal. Gentle and haunting. Beautiful beyond description. Like moonlight reflected upon still water. Even the breeze ceased. The crystal bells hanging throughout the city fell silent. The world itself seemed to listen. Whispers spread among the matrons.
"He possesses extraordinary resonance."
"A gift rarely seen."
"He may become one of the greatest Noble Consorts of our age."
Even Queen Tsukihana watched with pride. Her silver eyes softened. For a brief moment, she looked not like the mighty ruler of Hive-Lumina But simply a mother admiring her son.
After the choir ended, the High Priestesses approached. It is time for the Coming-of-Age Ceremony Moonlight flowed from their staffs. Silver lotus petals filled the air. One by one, young members of the colony stepped forward. Each child's spiritual resonance would be examined. Each future would be formally acknowledged. A young girl was named an architect. Another was chosen to become a healer. One boy displayed exceptional illusion magic. Another showed talent in historical memory. Cheers followed every announcement. sisters embraced, sisters laughed together. Then The High Priestess spoke.
"Yuki Tsukishiro."
Yuki stepped forward. His white robes flowed around him like drifting snow. Tsukikage smiled proudly. Suiren cheered loudly from the audience.
"Brother Yuki!"
Yuki laughed softly and bowed. Then he entered the circle. The High Priestess raised her staff. Moonlight descended from above. Silver energy surrounded Yuki. Everything proceeded normally. For several seconds. Then The moonlight flickered. The silver energy dimmed. A strange chill spread across the plaza. Something is wrong The crystal floor beneath Yuki darkened.
The High Priestess frowned.
"Strange…"
Another priestess looked confused.
"The resonance has become unstable."
Yuki blinked.
"Mother Priestess?"
Suddenly
CAW!
Everyone froze. A single black crow landed beside him. Silence fell. No one moved. No one breathed. Because crows did not exist inside the domes. They had been absent for centuries. Especially black crows. The bird stared with glowing silver eyes. Then Another crow appeared. And another. And another.
CAW!
CAW!
CAW!
Dark feathers drifted through the air. The younger Children screamed. The crystal floor beneath Yuki became a pool of living shadow. And from that darkness More crows emerged. Dozens. Then hundreds. Creatures formed entirely from black mist and moonless night. Their cries echoed throughout the city. The festival dissolved into chaos and panic.
"Shadow-Born!"
"It cannot be!"
"Impossible!"
"Protect the Queen!"
The Female Warriors immediately formed defensive circles. Not around Yuki. Around everyone else. Because the Shadow-Born were not hated. They were feared. Ancient records spoke of them. Rare sons born with powers to control darkness and shadows that disrupted psychic harmony. Dreams became unstable around them. Resonance fractured. Entire colonies could slowly lose balance. No one believed the stories anymore. Until now. Yuki looked around in terror. His body trembled. The crows circled him protectively.
"I don't understand…"
Another shadow crow burst from beneath his feet.
Tears filled his eyes.
"Please…"
"I didn't do anything…"
"I'm sorry…"
The crowd retreated. Everyone moved away. Everyone Except Tsukikage. Ignoring frightened cries, he ran forward.
"Brother!"
He threw his arms around Yuki. Instantly, the crows stopped shrieking. The shadows became calm. Dark feathers drifted peacefully around the brothers.
Yuki trembled.
Tsukikage held him tighter.
"It's okay."
"I'm here."
Yuki's voice broke.
"They're afraid of me."
Tsukikage shook his head.
"No."
"No matter what happens"
"You're still my brother."
Yuki finally began to cry.
Nearby, Suiren had drawn her tiny practice sword. Though tears streamed down her cheeks, she stood before both brothers. Her small body shook with fear. Yet she refused to retreat.
"I'll protect them!"
Several Royal Guards stared in disbelief. She was barely more than a child. Yet she stood against an entire crowd.
"Anyone who wants to hurt my brothers has to fight me first!"
Tsukikage nearly cried harder.
Yuki laughed weakly through his tears.
"Our little flower really has become brave."
The Queen Descends Above them, Queen Tsukihana rose from her throne. Instant silence spread throughout the plaza. The ancient Queen descended slowly upon currents of moonlight. Even the crows became silent. Her expression held no anger. Only sorrow. She approached Yuki. The frightened young man collapsed to his knees.
"Mother…"
His voice shook.
"What did I do wrong?"
Queen Tsukihana gently touched his face.
Her hand trembled.
"My child…"
Silver tears gathered in her eyes.
"Nothing."
"You did nothing wrong."
Yuki broke completely. The Queen embraced him. Holding him like she had when he was a newborn.
"You were simply born beneath a different moon."
The entire plaza lowered their heads. Because everyone understood. The ancient law. The sacred law. The law no Queen could break. The Truth that Shadow-Born males could not remain within the hive. Not because they were evil. Not because they were cursed. But because their existence gradually harmed the psychic balance of the colony. The hive would suffer. Dreams would fracture. Children would become ill. Harmony itself would slowly collapse. No exceptions existed. Not even for a Queen's favorite son.
Tsukikage's face turned pale.
"No…"
Suiren dropped her sword.
"No!"
Yuki closed his eyes. Perhaps A part of him had always known. His fascination with forbidden places. His endless questions. His curiosity about the world beyond the dome. Maybe fate had been guiding him toward exile from the very beginning. Black feathers drifted around him. And yet Yuki smiled. The same gentle smile he had always worn. The smile of an older brother. The smile of someone comforting others while his own heart shattered.
He wiped Tsukikage's tears.
"Questions are not sins."
Tsukikage sobbed.
"Brother…"
Yuki touched his forehead gently.
Then he looked toward Suiren.
"And little flower…"
Suiren collapsed into tears.
"I'll become strong!"
"I'll become a Royal Guard!"
"I'll protect both of you!"
Yuki smiled.
"I know you will."
Far above Hive-Lumina Beyond the crystal dome The moon remained unchanged. Beautiful. Silent. Indifferent. And as black feathers drifted across the silver sky The age of innocence ended.
