Tarek al-Shadeen — The Black Rider of Baal
Within the endless deserts of Baalania, there was one name spoken with greater fear than many kings Tarek al-Shadeen, the mounted champion of the Crimson Crescent. He was not merely a warrior, but a symbol of terror sent ahead of Baalania’s armies to break the spirit of entire nations before conquest even began.
Tarek rode a monstrous black warhorse named Duskmaw, a towering beast armored in obsidian plates and draped in black silk war banners stained with dried blood. The horse’s eyes glowed crimson at night, and its armored hooves were said to crush bones like brittle glass. Wherever Duskmaw galloped, desert sand darkened beneath its steps as if the land itself recoiled from its presence.
Varek himself wore heavy black cavalry armor layered with gold scripture devoted to Baal. Jagged shoulder plates curved upward like demonic horns, while a tattered black cloak flowed behind him like smoke. His face was partly hidden behind a dark steel mask shaped into a cruel grin, revealing only piercing amber eyes filled with hatred and fanatic devotion. Chains carrying the severed crowns of conquered rulers hung from his saddle as trophies.
Unlike honorable warriors, Varek delighted in cruelty. Villages that surrendered peacefully were often punished anyway simply to spread fear ahead of Baalania’s invasions. He ordered prisoners dragged behind horses across the desert until nothing remained but bones. Entire enemy bloodlines vanished beneath his campaigns. To Varek, mercy was weakness, and suffering was the purest offering to Baal.
Armed with a massive black crescent lance called Nightpiercer, he charged through battlefields like a living storm. His cavalry assaults shattered shield walls within seconds, trampling soldiers beneath iron hooves before they could even raise weapons. In close combat, Varek wielded a hooked scimitar designed not only to kill, but to tear armor and flesh apart slowly.
The people of Iliryo gave him many names:
- The Black Rider
- The Desert Butcher
- The Black Horseman of Ash
- The Fang of Baal
But among the conquered, one title spread above all others:
The Harbinger of Submission
For when Tarek al-Shadeen appeared on the horizon beneath black banners and swirling desert winds…
It meant Baalania had come.
Powers & Abilities
Shadow Cavalry Aura
When Tarek charges into battle, black smoke and shadow energy spread behind him, causing fear and panic among enemy soldiers. Weak-minded warriors often flee before combat even begins.
Curse of the Black Sand
The ground beneath Duskmaw becomes corrupted during battle. Crops die, water turns foul, and wounded enemies slowly weaken as dark sand spreads through their bodies like a curse.
Infernal Charge
Varek and Duskmaw can smash through fortified lines with supernatural force. Their impact can send armored soldiers flying and shatter wooden gates instantly.
Eyes of Baal
Through dark blessings from Baal, Tarek can sense fear within nearby enemies. The more terrified his opponents become, the stronger and faster he grows.
Nightpiercer’s Hunger
His black lance absorbs the souls of warriors killed by it. Each soul strengthens the weapon’s dark power, causing its blade to glow with crimson energy during massive battles.
Duskmaw’s Fury
The warhorse itself is unnatural:
- Breathes scorching black smoke
- Feels no exhaustion or fear
- Can trample multiple enemies at once
- Its crimson eyes paralyze weaker opponents with terror
The Black Eclipse Rage
During eclipses or massive battles, Varek enters a divine frenzy blessed by Baal. His armor radiates dark fire, his strength becomes monstrous, and wounds heal almost instantly while he fights.
